Select chart elements with Shift and Ctrl in Ampler Charts

Ampler Charts lets you select one, several, or all of a chart’s labels or elements using Shift and Ctrl, so you can format them together.

Quick answer: Left-click an element to select it; hold Shift and click the last to select all in between; hold Ctrl and click to select individual elements.

How to use it

Selecting chart elements with Shift and Ctrl in Ampler Charts

Shift to select a range, Ctrl to pick individually.

  1. Left-click to select a label or element.
  2. Hold Shift and click the last one to select everything in between.
  3. Hold Ctrl and left-click to select individual elements one by one.

The selection behaves like Excel or PowerPoint — Shift for a range, Ctrl for individual picks — so a set of elements can be formatted at once.

How consultants use it

Formatting a set of elements together is what keeps a chart consistent. Three habits apply:

  • Select a range with Shift: a run of labels is selected in one action
  • Pick individually with Ctrl: specific elements are added to the selection
  • Format as a set: the whole selection is styled at once for consistency

Multi-selecting elements lets you format a chart consistently and fast.

Tips & best practices

  • Use Shift to select a whole run of labels.
  • Use Ctrl to add or remove individual elements from the selection.
  • Format the selection at once to keep the chart consistent.
