Keyboard shortcut
Update has no default shortcut. To assign one, open the Settings dropdown on the Ampler ribbon, choose Shortcuts, click Set shortcut on the function, and press your key combination.
Why use it
Word updates fields individually, and it’s easy to send a document with a stale table of contents or an out-of-date cross-reference. One Update refreshes every field in the document, so nothing is left showing old page numbers or references.
How consultants use it
A long report is full of fields — a table of contents, cross-references, figure and table numbers — that must all be current when it goes out. A stale reference is a visible error. Three habits apply:
- Everything current before sending: one update refreshes the TOC, references, and labels together.
- No stale page numbers: the contents and cross-references match the final document.
- Part of the final check: update is a standing step before a report is issued.
Updating all fields makes the whole document consistent in one click.
Tips & best practices
- Run Update as the last step before exporting or sending.
- Update after any change that shifts page numbers or reordering.
- Follow with a Scan & Fix pass for formatting consistency.
