Start a new Word document from a template in your library

Ampler starts a new Word document from a template saved in your library, so every document begins on the approved format instead of Word’s blank default.

Quick answer: Click New Document (Ctrl+Shift+N) on the Ampler ribbon, select the document template to use, and click New document or press Enter.

How to use it

  1. Click New Document (Ctrl+Shift+N) on the Ampler ribbon.
  2. Select the document template to use.
  3. Click New document or press Enter.

The new document opens on the chosen template, already carrying its styles and layout.

Keyboard shortcut

New Document is Ctrl+Shift+N by default; you can reassign it in the Ampler Settings → Shortcuts.

Why use it

Starting from Word’s blank document means importing or rebuilding the house style every time. Starting from a saved template means the document is on-brand from the first line — correct styles, fonts, and layout in place.

How consultants use it

Reports and proposals are expected to follow the firm’s document template, and a file that doesn’t start from it is off-brand before a word is written. Three conventions apply:

  • Every document starts on-brand: the template carries the styles, fonts, and layout.
  • One source for the template: templates live in the library, so everyone builds on the same one.
  • No rebuilding the format: the document is correct from the first line.

Starting from a library template keeps every document on the house style.

Tips & best practices

  • Save your firm’s document templates to the library so they’re always to hand.
  • Keep report and proposal templates as separate library items.
  • Pair with a saved cover page and table of contents for a complete starting point.
