Equalise the width and height of shapes in PowerPoint

Ampler makes selected shapes the same width, the same height, or both — matched to the shape you selected last — so a set of elements shares exact dimensions.

Quick answer: Select the shapes, choosing the reference shape last, then click Same width, Same height, or both on the Ampler ribbon to match them to it.

How to use it

Select the reference shape last, then match the rest to it.

  1. Hold Shift and left-click to select the shapes — select the reference shape last.
  2. Click Same width or Same height to match the selection to the last-selected shape.

Use both to make every selected shape share the reference’s exact width and height.

Keyboard shortcut

These functions have no default shortcut. To assign one, open the Settings dropdown on the Ampler ribbon, choose Shortcuts, click Set shortcut on the function, and press your key combination.

Why use it

A row of boxes that are almost — but not quite — the same size looks careless, and matching them by typing dimensions is tedious. Same width and Same height snap the whole selection to the reference shape’s dimensions in one click.

How consultants use it

Uniform element dimensions are a basic quality signal on a consulting slide: a set of boxes in a framework should be identical, not approximately equal. Three habits apply:

  • Uniform element dimensions: a set of shapes shares one exact size.
  • Match to a chosen reference: the last-selected shape sets the standard the others adopt.
  • Consistent boxes read as rigour: exact matching signals care across the exhibit.

Equalising width and height makes a set of shapes truly identical in size.

Tips & best practices

  • Select the shape whose size is correct last — it’s the reference.
  • Use Same width and height for a fully uniform set.
  • Combine with alignment and distribution for a clean, even row.
