Format the fill and outline of a series in Ampler Charts

Ampler Charts lets you set the fill and outline colour of one or more series — or a single segment, so a chart is coloured to your palette.

Quick answer: Select one or more series, click Fill colour and Outline colour and choose the colours; format an individual segment by clicking it twice first.

How to use it

Formatting the fill and outline of a series in Ampler Charts

Select a series, then set its fill and outline colour.

  1. Select one or more series.
  2. Click Fill colour and select the desired colour.
  3. Click Outline colour and select the desired colour.
  4. To format an individual segment, click twice on it first.

The selected series (or a single segment) takes the fill and outline you choose, so the chart follows your colour scheme.

When to use it

Colour series to your palette — and use colour with intent: mute the comparators and highlight the one series that carries the message, rather than colouring everything equally.

How consultants use it

Colour is one of the strongest signals on a chart, so consultants use it deliberately. Three habits apply:

  • On the palette: series are coloured to the firm’s or client’s scheme, not an arbitrary pick
  • Highlight the message: the key series is emphasised and comparators are muted
  • Segment-level control: a single segment can be recoloured to make a point

Formatting series colour lets a chart guide the eye to what matters.

Tips & best practices

  • Mute comparator series and highlight the one that carries the message.
  • Keep to the palette rather than the full colour wheel.
  • Recolour a single segment (click twice) to call out one point.
