Distribute shapes and pictures evenly in Word

Ampler distributes selected shapes or pictures with equal gaps — evenly or with a spacing you set, so objects sit on a consistent rhythm.

Quick answer: Select the objects and click Distribute horizontally for even gaps, or Distribute horizontally with predefined space to enter an exact spacing.

How to use it

Distributing shapes and pictures evenly in Word with Ampler

Distribute evenly, or type an exact gap.

  1. Hold Shift and left-click to select the shapes or pictures.
  2. Click Distribute horizontally for equal gaps.
  3. Or click Distribute horizontally with predefined space, enter the gap, and click OK.

Predefined spacing gives an identical, repeatable gap between objects.

Keyboard shortcut

The distribute functions have no default shortcut. To assign one, open the Settings dropdown on the Ampler ribbon, choose Shortcuts, click Set shortcut on the function, and press your key combination.

Why use it

Uneven gaps between objects are one of the first things a reader notices. Ampler distributes them with equal gaps, or an exact spacing you set, so a row of figures or shapes sits on a deliberate rhythm.

How consultants use it

Even spacing is a quiet signal of care, and objects in a document should sit on a consistent rhythm. Three conventions apply:

  • Even spacing reads as rigour: equal gaps make a set of objects look composed.
  • A consistent rhythm: spacing follows a deliberate measure.
  • Set spacing for repeatable layouts: a predefined gap is reused across the document.

Distributing objects makes their spacing exact and repeatable.

Tips & best practices

  • Use predefined space when several places must share the same spacing.
  • Follow distribution with an alignment pass.
  • Reuse the same gap on parallel layouts.
