How to use it

Cycling date formats in Excel with Ampler

Select the cells, then cycle the format.

  1. Select the cells you wish to format.
  2. Click Cycle date format (Ctrl+Shift+2), and click again to cycle to the next format.

The formats it cycles through are the ones defined under Settings → Cycles, so you can set them to your company standards.

Keyboard shortcut

Cycle date format is Ctrl+Shift+2 by default; reassign it in the Ampler Settings → Shortcuts.

Why use it

Date formatting is a common source of inconsistency — and confusion between day-month and month-day across regions. Cycling through your accepted date formats keeps dates consistent and unambiguous.

How consultants use it

Consistent number formatting is a basic quality signal in a model, and applying a house standard by hand is slow. Three habits apply:

  • One date convention: dates read the same throughout the model
  • Region-safe: the accepted format avoids day-month confusion
  • On the house standard: the formats come from the defined cycle

Cycling date formats keeps dates consistent and unambiguous.

Tips & best practices

  • Select a range and cycle to the standard format.
  • Set the formats to your house standard under Settings → Cycles.
  • Keep formatting consistent across the whole model.

Availability

Included in Ampler for Excel and the Ampler Suite, on Windows desktop Excel.
