Move and free-float series labels in Ampler Charts

Ampler Charts lets you move series labels — to the other side of the chart, or free-floating anywhere — so each label sits where it reads best.

Quick answer: Drag a series label to move it to the other side of the chart; hold Ctrl while dragging to free-float it into any position.

How to use it

Moving and free-floating series labels in Ampler Charts

Drag a label, or hold Ctrl to free-float it.

  1. Drag the series labels to move them to the other side of the chart.
  2. Hold Ctrl while dragging to free-float the series labels into position.

The labels move to where you place them, so they sit clear of the data and next to the series they name.

When to use it

Free-float a label when its default position overlaps the data or another label; the pre-defined positions keep the chart tidy when they don’t.

How consultants use it

Where a label sits determines whether a chart reads cleanly. Three habits apply:

  • Clear of the data: labels are moved off the lines and columns they name
  • Next to their series: each label stays close to what it identifies
  • Free-float when needed: Ctrl-drag places a label exactly where it reads best

Moving labels keeps a chart legible and uncluttered.

Tips & best practices

  • Move labels off the data so they don’t overlap it.
  • Hold Ctrl to place a label precisely.
  • Keep label placement consistent across comparable charts.
